Finishing corners, etc. with nylon tubing vs. compression fittings

The beauty of The Smart Mist USA kit is the simplicity and ease in which it can be assembled. No skill is required by the customer besides the ability to use a tape measure and a screw driver. By far the most popular kit is with stainless steel tubes. The tubes are pre-cut to 24" sections. Each end of the tube has a shallow groove which enables the slip lock fittings to grab onto the tube.

The slip lock fittings can be universally used for either stainless steel or high pressure nylon tubes. In a typical stainless steel installation, the nylon tubing is used to finish off inside corners  and other areas in which the stainless steel sections will not meet ( See Fig. 3 below ).  . The included nylon tube cutter makes finishing off corners and other areas quick and easy. Just push the tubing into the fitting and that is it ! I will rate the difficulty of this installation at a 2.

This year we are also offering stainless steel compression fittings , as well as tube cutters, and bending tools.  Compression fittings do not need to have the groove in the stainless steel tube to grab onto the fitting. This means you can cut the tubing to any length for an all stainless steel installation rather than using the nylon tube to finish  corners, etc.  For those who want to spend a little more time and effort on the installation, and , have a little higher degree of tool familiarity, this option offers a cleaner and more professional finished look. Be aware that the measuring and cutting of the stainless steel tubing must be more precise than using nylon tubing. In addition, once  a compression fitting has been tightened, the tube is not reusable ( unless re-cut ) and the compression fitting will need new ferrules ( See fig. 4 below ) to be used again. Also note that compression fittings cannot be used on an end with a groove, and , slip lock fittings cannot be used on an end in which the groove has been cut off. I would give this installation a degree of difficulty of 6-7

Stainless steel tubing is very hard so special tube cutters are needed. We offer a high quality tube cutter. In addition, we offer tube benders to make custom bends .  We have a compression fitting bundle which includes the tube cutter, 2 elbows, a grip for the tubing and 2 extra sections of stainless steel tube,  It is nice to have the extra tubes available in case of mistakes. Also available in both slip lock and compression are straight and tee fittings. Below are a couple of examples of compression fittings and compression fittings with tube bending.
